THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Director Henry Selick Reveals Whether The Movie Is A Halloween Or Christmas Movie!

One of the biggest debates during the holiday season is whether or not The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie, and it always seems like this debate is never ending. However the film’s director Henry Selick wants to end this debate.

Selick recently participated in a Q&A at the Telluride Horror Show in Colorado. When the time came for audience questions, Selick was hit with a very good question from a little girl, who asked whether the 1993 animated classic was a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie.

Selick had this to say:

“Oh boy, it’s a Halloween movie”

Selick went on to explain that while Christmas plays a factor in the story, at the end of the day, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a story about Halloween, the citizens that inhabit Halloween Town and how they react to the idea of Christmas.

Now with all that said this movie in my opinion is still meant to be enjoyed during both holidays, and I believe most Disney fans will agree.

Where do you side on this debate? Let us know in the comments.

I was always leaning more to the Halloween side. I imagined myself watching the movie during Halloween time and Christmas time and it seemed like it made more sense to watch it on Halloween. 😊
